2005 Rodney Strong Merlot Sonoma County – Episode 161

By Patrick

Rodney Strong is a fairly large producer of wine and generally they make a very solid product. I never every shy away from grabbing one of their wines as they are always well made. Maybe not always my style but that does not and should detract from the winery as a whole. We have been to their winery and enjoyed it very much. This merlot checks in at around $13 -$15 at most retailers.

Over oaked….i'm so surprised. For me Rodney Strong is a pazzzz, unless someone else is buying it.

You communicate well on your wine reviews…I think this would also be a pazzzzz for me. I have had a couple of other Rodney Strong wines, but I found them underwhelming. Please do more vino reviews, with all of your spare time and a new baby coming, etc. (heehee!)

Loved the WOOD comment….One of my favorite wines..!!!!!

I was wondering if you just like merlot or other wines. I am interested to hear your insite into other wines that Rodney Strong Vineyards has to offer. I am a big fan of Rodney Strong wines because they do offer a very consistent and enjoyable wine ranging from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cab, port, Sauv Blanc, Zinfandel, and Syrah.. I know their cabs are there overall focal point and signiture wine, so i would be curies to see how your palate is influenced by these different style of wines.

I have had rodney strong's over the last 10 years that I really enjoyed and then others like this miss the mark

Thanks Michelle – I am working on doing more wine reviews- think I will be setting up a flip cam in one spot then I can jump in nightly and in a few minutes get one recorded

I am def. not a Rodney Strong hater and have enjoyed their wines over the last decade- sometimes like with many wineries the oak dominates the grape- it happpens. I have not tasted through a complete line of RS wines in a while but I will certainly pick up the 2007 cab when I see it and report back- for me generally I have been leaning towards Bordeaux merlot based wines lately.

Agreed. Congrats on the Baby. Luca Kahuna has a great ring to it!
