By Patrick

A nice wine from importer Jorge Ordonez, this is a Tempranillo from Spain and rolls in around between $12 and $13 a bottle.

    Sounds like a “cliff wine.”

Hi Kahuna, I'm with you concerning the respect for Jorge Ordonez. His name has always been a nudge to try something new…here in VT his wines were a rare find for years, but they have been increasing in availability…to the point where I have a had a couple that were just not up to spec and seemed to be aimed at the mass markets. I had the Volver for the first time a couple of years ago…whenever the 2005 vintage was released, and I was really impressed (still have 3 bottles of that run left) however follow up vintages have not had the same complete balance that the 2005 did, and I have not been tempted to stock up. That said, it is still a nice quaff, but up here it runs from $15 – $18 a bottle.

I've got out check out the pannetone french toast…it never lasts long enough to try something like that at our house.
    Cheers.

Just got an invite to attend a trade tasting next week with Calmont Beverage, the largest VT wine distributor. It's going to be at the Quechee Club, and tasting wines of Spain, predominately selections from Jorge Ordonez and Eric Solomon (the other go-to name for Iberian deals). I hope I can swing it… if I can, and find anything new and interesting, I'll let you know.
    Ciao.

  • KAHUNA

Thanks Burro- yes Solomon is another great name to look for- I hope you can make it as i would love to here about some new offering or how new releases are looking

  • KAHUNA

I have been lucky in that most of his offerings will be available at one of the 4 0r 5 big wine stores we have- no doubt that you sometimes get a wine not quite up to the expectation- the one good thing though for the most part is that they are not clunkers-So I do not feal cheated if one is not quite what I was hoping for

  • KAHUNA

yes it was – tasty though

As of now, I am planning on being there and will certainly let you know if anything stands out.
I'll probably do a full post on the event, but I'll get you an early release.

Yo Kahuna…I've dropped the ball on those Spanish tasting notes…been really busy, and the woman I subbed at the tasting for is and does not need them until next week. I'll put them together this weekend though, and post you. There was nothing that was truly an “early release” but many wines that I am familiar with from previous vintages, so it was nice to get a chance to taste through them all before I go shopping.

  • KAHUNA

Cool – thanks for the update – look forward to hearing your thoughts on some of those wines

Kahuna…just sent you an email (to your yahoo address which I hope is corrcet) with a link to download the tasting notes PDF…
    Cheers.

  • KAHUNA

Hey- got the email and now can not find it- I opened it briefly on my laptop- I am going to look for it again tonight and if- oh wait ugh I forgot to check the yahoo account again-that is where it is

  • http://www.vtwinemedia.com/ BurroBoy

Yes, it was the yahoo account…in retrospect the notes were not as well taken as I remembered. Going to start using the flip cam and a vox recorder from now on.
