2007 Alexander Valley Vineyards Sangioves, CA – Episode 96

Alexander Valley Vineyards is one of my favorite Sonoma producers for many reasons and the main one being that their wines are almost always in balance- rarely if ever will you have the fruit over shadowing the body and finish or the acid and tannin not be able to balance the wine. They make most of their wines in the the $15- $25 range with some as low as $8 and some as high as $60- Alexander Valley Vineyards is the winery that got me to go to Sonoma/Napa for the first time 9 years ago or so after having having their Merlot in the Key’s at a restaurant.

Alexander Valley Vineyards makes an assortment of Zins including Sin Zin also Cab. Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cyrus(a blend), a few wineclub members offering from blending sessions with actual wine club members, Sangiovese, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Gewurtz, Chardonnay, Viogner, and a host of special bottles also-

AVV is also a energy independent winery which is great. They have stuck to honest wine-making, they do not throw their wines out of balance by using huge fruit forward techniques looking to chase scores from many critics who are seduced by this, for the most part their wines are perfect to have with any meal- they enhance the experience not over take it. If you want to expand what you are drinking and want a quality winery with fair prices I would suggest joining their wine club.
